instead of attacking developers, allow people to setup 'Habbo servers'
similar to how people who buy Minecraft can setup 'Minecraft servers'.
I'm sure Sulake could find a way to make this work and get lots of money
out of 12 year olds at the same time, they've had enough practise.
They can still take you to court, regardless of where the server is hosted.

Then why do so many people use off shore hosting to host illegal sites?

If you continue to ignore them, I am almost certain they'll just take
your company or person(s) to court in the US (or Finland, i'm not sure
on their copyright laws or stance on DMCA) and destroy you there.
Not being "scared of Sulake" after they win against Aaron in court is stupid.
So they're going to waste their money on extraditing me to the USA to
get nothing out of me because I'll go bankrupt as soon as I'm declared
guilty and not have to pay them a cent. So good game, why be scared?

Extradite you lol? Why would they do that? Are you planning on going to
jail? Extradition happens after you've been convicted and are guilty of a
crime, they do not need you to be in the US to find you guilty of
copyright infringement. You do not even have to be in court.
You're not protected, you should be scared.

Offshore hosting will not protect you. Offshore hosting will protect
your files. If you reside in any country where there are copyright laws
(DMCA applicable or not), you can be charged. That is the bottom line.

Why should I be scared? Sulake are going to come after me because I make $300 to pay for my servers? Fuck off.

The process of bankruptcy is different from country to country.
I've looked up the bankruptcy laws in Australia for you.
For the duration of the bankruptcy, you must obtain permission from your trustee to travel overseas.
Any assets you have (excluding protected assets) of value will be sold.
The most important thing to be is that when you are out of bankruptcy,
for many years on your credit report it will have "discharged bankrupt"
on. This might not sound all that bad now, but what about when you're
married and want to buy a house. You will probably struggle to get a
mortgage or loan with that on your history at a young age.
My point is that you shouldn't think that declaring bankruptcy is an
easy way out. In fact, if you are fined you should try and do everything
but declare bankruptcy.

Look
at what happened to the scripting scene, I think we all thought
eventually some new, young coders would take it back up but it's still
all-but-dead. Interest is dwindling as is relevant talent.

I didn't state specifically that you would, but the intent of ^that^
part of my original comment was to say that you would not let them push
you into giving up any of our information.
@Hejula RaGEZONE is not a direct threat to Sulake, but when you think
about it, this is the place where most hotels get their emulators,
information, swfs, etc. for their hotels. While MentaL doesn't actually
provide the files, information, etc. he withholds information about
certain users who have or currently do provide those things. As I have
recently stated (and he confirmed), MentaL could care less if they are
some big company, our information is secure and safe from not only
Sulake, but all companies who seek that type of information. [COOKIES]

Certain Hosting Companies in certain countries will give up your
information in the blink of an eye to avoid any court cases in federal
courts, especially companies in America and UK. OffShore Hosting
companies are not subject to DMCA complaints and they allow illegal
activity to occur like Adult Sites, Torrents, Warez, etc. It is still
liable to federal/international court subpoenas though. They are often
hosted "Off-Shore" or in other countries too, especially Russia.

That'll be the next thing on Channel 4; Sulake first gets a lawsuit for
allowing people who 'attack' kids. Now they're 'attacking' a bunch of
kids just trying to advance their experience and knowledge in computer
development. Who's the real criminal here? Most of these kids don't have
a cent to their name, but the multi-million dollar company will do
anything for money.

The only reason Sulake (or now Elisa I guess) want to pursue people like
this is because of people like Aaron and hotel owners who charge money
for things. The habbo scene hasn't been about learning and furthering
computer development in about five years bar the rare project. It's a
shame too because Habbo used to be a hotbed for young talent and I think
some peoples names will pop up again later on in the news (Dinnerbone's
already doing alright for himself isn't he?) on both the side of evil
(scripters) and good (fansites). There was some serious talent,
dedication, quality and creativity for a fanbase of 11+ year olds.
Stop spewing bollocks.

So the host doesn't suspend your services when they receive a DMCA
Notice. If it is off shore the host won't be held liable, thus they
ignore something that won't do any harm to them.

Well, if you'd take a look around RaGEZONE's Habbo Section. You would
know that you're the one "spewing bollocks". There are many bullshit
developers on here who expect you to make an omelette for them without
any eggs. There are also some developers who are really just trying to
further their knowledge and help the community. Much potential can be
found in this section, you just need to dig through the flamers, badge
posters, and repeat posters of the same emulators. ;)
AluxH 09:34 AM 2 Weeks Ago
No,
it's not even my rose tinted nostalgia glasses. Habbo development was
much better back in the day because the systems were simpler and there
were wider goals than a carbon copy of the hotel. There are small pools
of talent but it is by no means the hotbed for talent it once was.

I wish all the retro owners the best.. You guys are taking a risk, so good luck with it. I hope they won't stop.

Hi,
If we all contributed £1/ $1 to someone to make a huge server...and keep it hidden away from Sulake.
Quackster should be able to make the pheonix licence again...or something like that.
